Seniors build websites? Seniors have much that sets them apart from others in our world; experience, wisdom, and more experience. Seniors have a lifetime of mistakes, successes, love, war, politics, heartbreak, miracles, etc... Unfortunately, way to many seniors leave this life with too many untold or forgotten stories. To many family recipes, photos, and significant events die with our seniors.

It does not have to be this way. Technology has made it possible for these things to be electronically documented. How you might ask? The same way that I wrote this. Some seniors build websites.

Have you ever thought about building a website?

Yes, seniors build websites too, great sites! If you did think about it, you were probably like most, thinking you would have to be a geek to know all this technical stuff, and/or spend a lot of money to pay someone to do it for you. Maybe you haven't even considered it.

It really can be easy. I liken it to a web builder coming into your home with the two of you sitting down at the table to discuss the website.

The builder would ask you some basic questions, such as: What do you want to write about? What do you want to name the title? Have you thought about what words someone might type to find your site? What pictures would you like to see on your website? Would you like certain pages to be private, and only those with a password can see? Maybe you have private family matters that you only want to share within the family; like recipes, stories and /or photos.

It is that easy. You can easily build a website by clicking and typing the same way you always type. You do not need to know any special code or HTML language.

I say, that if you made it this far, then building your own website can be easy and fun, and will certainly add value to your life, and your loved ones.

Let's explore some of the things that you can do as a senior with your website. People retire and say they are going to relax, play golf, vacation and just do nothing. Sounds good, but the facts are that things don't always turn out the way we plan or hope.

Many folks just get stir crazy and spin around on one foot, not knowing what to do with their time. What happened? Why aren't you playing golf, or vacationing, etc.? I'll tell you why. You have spent the last umpteen years working, and now you are having difficulty with idle time. Work is not a bad thing. Building a site at your own speed can be very satisfying to that part of you that is used to feeling like you need to "work", feeling like you have accomplished something.

Work has helped build the person you are, the knowledge you have, the friends you've made. The knowledge you have. Hmmmm.......

Here is an Idea. Let's say that you are knowledgeable about a certain something or other. Let's say that you worked as a truck driver. There is so much that you have to offer folks that are driving, and want to become a driver. You could build a site that starts on the experience and knowledge you have about driving a truck.

People want to know. Knowing is power, and when you share your experience, knowledge, and wisdom, you empower others. What if you were a chef, or a car mechanic, or a seamstress?

You have knowledge, and that knowledge has value. Don't take it with you- build a site, and give it to family, friends and the world.

We can all look back in our families and remember someone that had so many bits of knowledge, stories, and experience that we wished where documented. Maybe the scenario goes something like this. You have a senior in your life that you feel is incredible and needs to be documented-maybe a mother, father. grandmother, or grandfather. Maybe you would like to build a site to their tribute.

Maybe it is a way to spend quality time sitting there with that person, getting the stories, recipes, or just good ol' common sense, and building the site together. Don't wait till it is too late. This life is not a dress rehearsal; this is the show, and I mean that whether you build a site or not.

A friend of mine once said that everyone has something to teach us. Everyone has something that they can say, or express, that has value to life. I believe this to be true.

Let's look at some other Ideas! How about money? Maybe you are retired, you have a wood shop, and you make wooden toys, or special nick-nacks, like bird houses and the such. What if you built a site that was filled with your subject knowledge, techniuqes, tips, and then offered your items for sale?

Maybe there is a group that you belong to that get together for various reasons; cards, plants, art, bowling, etc. Your group can build a site together with everyone contributing a page or so.

There are so many things that seniors can do with building website's.
To me, the most important thing in life is wisdom.
When wisdom is applied, all else falls into place. That does not excuse me from life and it's ups and downs. I am just saying that wisdom allows me to make the most of the situation at hand.

What is my point, you might ask? My point is, that you as a senior should have much wisdom, and that wisdom can add value to the lives of others, but only if you share it with them/us.

You do not have to be a scholar, or even a high school graduate to do what I am saying. You do not have to graduate from college to be wise and have wisdom. That comes from the college called life! And if you are alive, you are in school.

Maybe what you want to do is build a site that lets you write about certain subjects that provoke questions or responses from folks. You can do this with what we call RSS (Really Simple Syndication).

With Site Build It , you can write your stuff, publish it, and send it out into the world for your friends and family to read. We used Site Build It for this site and Store Build It for our store side. Read the SiteBuild It articles, the Seniors experience should be saved article and look at other Site Build It website's. You will find many seniors and younger folks are building nice websites too!
