Lets learn a little about XML!

This is a sample active XML button bellow

So what about XML?

The SeniorsProducts-kdr.com web site is continuously updating information, having sales and adding products.

So What about XML? Ok, if we had a physical location near you, you just might want to stop by every now and then and see what's new. Maybe just to say hello :).

XML is sort of like that. Many of our customers just like to stop by and get the latest about info and product updates and just want to know how we are doing.

Well XML, RSS Feeds and a good Blog (Web-Log) gives us a way to give you the latest most up to date info!

Check it out!

SeniorsProducts-kdr blogety-blurb The neat thing is you don't have to guess when the next update is! You can read about all the new stuff as we add it.

XML is a little "window" (called a reader or an aggregator) on your monitor and that, each time we updated our site, you are automatically informed about it.

How? A headline (called a news feed) and a short summary to inform you is threaded to your reader.

If the summary interests you, all you need to do is follow the hyperlink that will take you to that page on my web site where you can read it all.

If you're not interested, you simply just delete the headline. Each time we add new content the info summary goes out on the "wire" and updates the readers!

You can subscribe to as many XML feeds as you would like - from current affairs to people's personal blogs (a blog is short for web log which is a diary or a journal on the Internet). So, what must you do to set it up and how much is it going to cost?

Let's answer the second question first about XML: Setting it up is FREE - it will cost you nothing.

One of the easiest and fun ways to do this is to start a free My Yahoo account. You may already have one. After you have a free Yahoo account setup, all you have to do is click on the add to my yahoo button. Add to My Yahoo!

Presto you are ready to add our site updates to your Yahoo page content. You can pick and choose the topics/news you want to see and read without all the aggravating spam mail.

You can go to the My Yahoo Featuring RSS page to learn a few more easy steps to customize your Yahoo RSS feeds. The Yahoo reader is very user friendly!

Now, if you really feel up to the challenge of learning about XML, the nuts and bolts of XML, you can sign up for and take a free comprehensive tutorial at: about XML at IBM DeveloperWorks XML Tutorial. This runs you through the what-is, why-is and how-is, about XML!

If you want a desk top version you can Install the down load versions below on you system.

This is how to setup a reader or an aggregator on a Windows system. Download: Microsoft's .NET framework 1.1 Install this on you system.

Download an RSS Reader from here: www.rssreader.com and install it on your system. You are now ready to add your first feed! Right click and copy shortcut

Right-click on the orange XML icon. Click the "Copy Shortcut" option. Open the RSS Reader and click on the green "+ Add" icon in the top left hand corner.

A form opens up that prompts you to enter the URL of the feed. Just paste the URL here (ctrl-v).

Well done - you've just added your very first RSS feed.

Let's test to see if it is working.

Click the "Get" icon which is to the left of the "+Add" icon. You should see a number of feeds arriving in the reader. Double-click the ones you are interested in to read the summary. Click the "Read more" or "Open in a Browser" links if you want to read the whole article.

If by chance these readers do not work with your system or you do not want to use your memory space, there is always the Yahoo option explained above.

Now you are ready to sign up for more feeds. Why not sign up for my blog's feed as well?

If you're interested in following the exciting journey, just copy and paste this URL exactly as you did the previous one:

Or click on this add to my Yahoo button and add our Blog!   Add to My Yahoo! Congratulations - now you know about XML and you have entered the new & exciting world of RSS/XML!
